Description
My dad, who flew in WWII and in Korea, often regales us with stories of his flying experiences. One of my favorites is the story of when he was flying in Korea in his C-119 Flying Boxcar. They had been in the air for over four hours, flying in stormy, rainy weather and having to fly on instruments. When they arrived at their destination, the clouds were just high enough to make a landing. Dad was flying the plane and as they came out of the clouds he noticed he was just off center of the runway. He was just getting ready to kick the rudder and swing the plane over when his co-pilot pulled the landing gear up forcing them to go around again. By the time they re-entered the traffic pattern, the field was closed due to the weather. He faced another four hours in the air, on instruments. The whole crew was tired by now and dad especially. After another couple of hours the plane suddenly flew into an open area with the sun streaming down through towering cumulus clouds. Dad started to hear pure, sweet, crystal clear voices sing. He pulled his headphone off and could still hear the beautiful undulating voices! His copilot could not hear anything. Then the plane flew into the clouds on the other side and the voices faded. I named this painting "Where Angels Sing". I gave the painting to my dad for his 92nd birthday last month.
