My dad, who flew in WWII and in Korea, often regales us with stories of his flying experiences. One of my favorites is the story of when he was flying in Korea in his C-119 Flying Boxcar. They had been in the air for over four hours, flying in stormy, rainy weather and having to fly on instruments. When they arrived at their destination, the clouds were just high enough to make a landing. Dad was flying the plane and as they came out of the clouds he noticed he was just off center of the runway. He was just getting ready to kick the rudder and swing the plane over when his co-pilot pulled the landing gear up forcing them to go around again. By the time they re-entered the traffic pattern, the field was closed due to the weather. He faced another four hours in the air, on instruments. The whole crew was tired by now and dad especially. After another couple of hours the plane suddenly flew into an open area with the sun streaming down through towering cumulus clouds. Dad started to hear...

Bob Wilson, Jr. has inherited his fathers talent. After making a career at the Charleston Naval Shipyard as an engineer, Bob, Jr. started up a desktop publishing business called Fine Art Reproductions that is primarily involved in the reproduction of art work done by Charleston, SC low country artists. He has recently started painting again. His colored pencil sketch “A Weaver’s Prayer was the first piece he did in over twenty five years. He studied the art of portrait painting under his father and has embarked on a career in the fine art of portraiture.
